Biographical Statement:

Donald K. Granvold, Ph.D., LMSW-ACP

        Donald K. Granvold, Ph.D., LMSW-ACP is Professor at the School of Social Work, The University of Texas at Arlington.  He earned a B.A. Degree in Social Studies in 1965 from Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa; Masters in Social Work in 1970 from the University of Iowa; and Doctorate in Social Foundations of Education in 1975 from the University of Iowa.  He has been a member of the faculty at SSW UTA since 1974.

        Dr. Granvold has taught Direct Practice courses since 1975.  In 1976, he developed the first course in Cognitive Intervention methods in a school of Social Work.  He has been a leader in the advancement of cognitive treatment methods particularly as they are applied to couples treatment and divorce.  He has authored over 40 book chapters and articles in social work and allied helping profession journals, and is editor of the volume, Cognitive and Behavioral Treatment:   Methods and Applications.  He is on the editorial boards of Social Work and Brief Treatment and Crisis Intervention.  He has maintained a part-time private practice since 1975 and he is a Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.  Dr. Granvold was the sole Social Worker to receive a 1998–1999 van Ameringen Foundation Fellowship to study at The Beck Institute with Aaron T. Beck, M.D.  Dr. Granvold is a Founding Fellow in the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.
