Application Steps and Information

If you have been admitted to the MBA program and you would like to take real estate courses, no problem (welcome!). You do not need to apply to the real estate program. You can simply take real estate courses as electives or formally declare a real estate MBA concentration. My only advise to MBA students is to take REAE 5311 Real Estate Analysis first. After you complete REAE 5311, you may take any other REAE course. Also remember, if you take the 5 Certificate in Real Estate Development classes are part of your MBA program, you can request the Certificate in Real Estate Development credential (even before you graduate with your MBA).

Please note that the application process is the same for the MSRE and the Certificate program with one exception, the GMAT is not requirement of the Certificate program. Also, International students must fulfill the TOEFL language requirement.

  • Application Steps (MSRE and Certificate students):
    1. ON-LINE APPLICATION (including application fee) Complete the on-line application at https://www.applytexas.org/adappc/gen/c_start.WBX . Please carefully specify which program you are applying to: Master of Science in Real Estate or the Certificate in Real Estate Development.
    2. OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS Mail ALL your prior official transcripts directly to the UTA Graduate School of Admission, Box 19167, Arlington TX 76019, phone (817) 272-2688, and fax (817) 272-2627. The UTA Graduate School of Admissions is located at 701 S. Nedderman Drive, Davis Hall, Room 333 Arlington, TX 76019 if you would like to deliver official transcripts in-person. Note, this step is potentially a bottleneck in the application process so plan ahead.
    3. GMAT for the MSRE APPLICATION (not required for Certificate applicants). Have your GMAT score(s) sent directly to UTA. Please see the Graduate School for UTA's GMAT or GRE codes. The GMAT is preferred but we accept the GRE (although the requirements are a little higher because the GMAT is preferred).
    4. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS ONLY You must submit your TOEFL language test scores. See UTA Graduate School for TOEFL Code.
    5. TWO RECOMMENDATIONS All applicants must submit two recommendation forms. The pdf forms can be downloaded at http://grad.uta.edu/pdfs/Prospective/Request_Recommendation.pdf. Print-out two copies of this form and complete the very top portion of the first page only. Give both recommender a form and an envelop addressed to Dr. Hansz (see mail address below - please do not e-mail). The recommender can complete the recommendation form and put it directly in the mail. You select your recommenders but the more qualified the recommender and the better their knowledge of you, the more credible the recommendation. Also, it is good strategy to select a recommender from your academic background (former instructor or professor) and also from your professional/industry experience (a current or former manager or other superior). Recommendations from family members or subordinate colleagues are discouraged.
    6. RESUME Please send me (mail address below - please do not e-mail) a copy of your current resume. We keep a resume for all of our students on file.
    7. PERSONAL STATEMENT The on-line application has a question that I refer to as the "personal statement." This question is about your qualifications, future career ambitions, and your interest in the Graduate Real Estate program. Many students complete this question on-line and as part of the on-line application (this is perfectly fine!). Others prefer to write this statement/essay off-line and send it directly to me (mail address below - please do not e-mail). This approach is fine too. This part of the application is important and required. With very few exceptions, the students in the Graduate Real Estate program have a sincere interest in real estate education. Your resume and personal statement (along with your recommendations) are important in demonstating your interest in this program and in a successful real estate career.
  • Mailing address for Dr. Hansz, Graduate Real Estate Advisor is Graduate Business School - UTA, Box 19376, Arlington TX 76019. Please remember, you send to me only your recommendations, resume, and personal statement (if not completed on-line). PLEASE NEVER E-MAIL THESE ITEMS. Send by US mail. Your transcripts, test scores, and on-line application go directly to the UTA Graduate School of Admissions. Thank you!

Final note, please do not wait until the last minute. It can take several weeks for you to assemble the required items and several weeks for the University to process and complete your application file. You should consider applying to the program at least one semester before the semester you intend to start. Applying early is also a signal that you are organized and plan ahead. Last minute applications can be a lot of stress on you, me, and the University. The University application deadlines can be found at http://grad.uta.edu/leftMenuPages/admissions_deadlines.asp.
